Ricketts on ethanol tariffs

Recently off an overseas trip to Asia, Nebraska Senator Pete Ricketts is expressing optimism about opening overseas markets for Nebraska Agricultural products.  Ricketts told reporters this week he wants to see more ethanol exports however he says he wants to see the playing field leveled with Brazil first.  

"For example the Brazilian ethanol gets a credit from being from sugar cane but it does not count all the deforestation and burning of trees that they to to clear the fields to grow that sugar cane does not count against them."  Ricketts said.

"Where our farmers and ranchers use precision agriculture is not being counted to our benefit.  So we use the Greek model here in the United States and we need to work with our allies and partners around the world for them to adopt, and we have done that with successfully with Japan and have gotten them to buy more of our ethanol and that's how we can open up markets overseas."
