WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Representative Adrian Smith (R-NE), Chairman of the Trade Subcommittee of the House Committee on Ways and Means, introduced companion legislation to Senators Deb Fischer and Shelley Moore Capito’s Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act.

This bipartisan legislation would allow for the year-round sale of ethanol fuel blends up to 15 percent nationwide. If passed, this bill would end the patchwork approach to regulation at the state level, providing much-needed clarity to producers and retailers across the country.

In addition to Rep. Smith, Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) introduced the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act alongside a bipartisan coalition of House Members – U.S. Reps. Nikki Budzinski (D-IL), Dusty Johnson (R-SD), Sharice Davids (D-KS) and Mariannette Miller Meeks (R-IA).

“Drivers across both Nebraska and the nation are begging for year-round access to E-15 fuel, and thankfully, Representative Smith is answering that call. Once this bill is passed, families nationwide will benefit from lower prices and reduced emissions — and of course, hardworking ethanol producers here in Nebraska will gain the certainty they deserve to meet that demand. That’s the definition of a win-win. We appreciate Representative Smith and his colleagues for taking up this bill in the House, and we call on every member of Congress to pass it in both chambers as soon aspossible.”
