Renewable fuels sector experiencing policy support and momentum

KANSAS CITY, MO - It’s been a successful year for the ethanol industry in terms of policy, implementation, and usage.

Geoff Cooper, President and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association, tells News Talk WJAG, they’re going to produce around 15.6 billion gallons of ethanol this year, the most since 2019.

Cooper says they’ve also had some great policy and regulatory victories such as the Renewable Fuel Standard.

"We've got three years of standards, so we're not sitting here wondering what the requirements going to be in 2024, we already know it. In fact, we know what the volume obligation will be in 2025 as well. That's a nice change and refreshing for the marketplace to have that kind of stability and certainty."

In the past year, Cooper says they’ve seen legislation from Iowa and Nebraska that have been very supportive of E15 and further expanding ethanol’s presence in terms of fuel supply for those states.

At the federal level, he says the Inflation Reduction Act included several tax credits and other policies very supportive of renewable fuels.
