Renewable Fuels Nebraska Applauds Denial of Small Refinery Exemptions

Renewable Fuels Nebraska applauded news today of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s official denial of 54 “gap-year” small refinery exemption petitions.
Ever since the Tenth Circuit Court’s January 2020 decision showing these waiver requests to be illegal for not meeting the parameters of qualifying for an exemption, RFN and other ethanol-associated state and national organizations have been urging the Agency to deny the waivers and restore the integrity of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).
Troy Bredenkamp, executive director of Renewable Fuels Nebraska, said: “Rejecting these small refinery exemption petitions was long overdue, and we are happy to have this issue settled once and for all. We can now move forward and realize the benefits for which the Renewable Fuels Standard was created, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, expand renewable fuels across the nation, and move the United States further towards energy independence.”
“We thank the Trump administration for doing the right thing in this case and adhering to the spirit of the 10th Circuit decision,” said Bredenkamp. “We also want to thank the Nebraska Congressional Delegation for their support and hard work on the ethanol industry’s behalf”.
