Groups Praise U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE)

June 12, 2017

Lincoln, NE

As the U.S. Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW) holds an important hearing (https://www.epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/hearings) on critical renewable fuels legislation, Nebraska renewable fuels stakeholders praised U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) for her work on key legislation to allow retailers to sell E15 throughout the year.

Senator Fischer is a key champion of the domestic ethanol industry, and is the chief sponsor of the Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act, S. 517.  The legislation extends the Reid vapor pressure (RVP) waiver to ethanol blends above 10 percent. S. 517 also increases market access opportunities in Nebraska for higher blends of ethanol.  It also allows retailers in Nebraska to sell E15 all year, increasing regulatory certainty and eliminating confusion at the pump.  This legislation will usher in greater consumer access to E15 into the Nebraska market.

"S. 517 is critical legislation to continue growing and expanding ethanol markets in Nebraska and throughout the nation, and Senator Fischer understands that," said Mark Palmer, Executive Director of Renewable Fuels Nebraska (RFN).  "Senator Fischer is a pioneer and champion of our industry and we are extremely grateful for her leadership."

As the number two ethanol producing state in the U.S., Nebraska seeks to usher in higher level blends like E15.  RFN believes that addressing the RVP issue will enable Nebraska to have greater access to E15.  Higher level blends of ethanol will given consumers a choice at the pump, while lowering the cost of fuel they purchase.  RFN is the producer organization of Nebraska ethanol producers, that together produce nearly 2.25 billion gallons annually, and home to 25 ethanol plants.
